Meet Rachel Torrey

Rachel Torrey co-founded HYPE Los Angeles, where she led student programming for five years and later guided the organization’s 2016 merger into YES through the Nonprofit Sustainability Initiative. At YES, she now oversees middle and high school programming and is passionate about supporting students as they explore and pursue their educational pathways.

Rachel began her career in education with Teach For America in 2005, teaching middle school science in Los Angeles public schools. In 2009, she was named ICEF Middle School Teacher of the Year, and she later contributed to educator training on a national scale with Teach For America.

She holds a bachelor’s degree in biology from Washington University in St. Louis, a master’s in Teaching from Loyola Marymount University, and a master’s in School Administration from California State University, Northridge. Rachel is also a certified college counselor. Outside of work, she loves spending time at the beach, exploring LA’s frozen yogurt shops, and being with her family.
